10-8 Performance Lab, Episode 69: 2011 Grip Safety
I have over 1200 rounds through my 4.25” and I stopped having malfunctions after about 300 rounds of Hot Load Ammunition and constantly cleaning the firearm…after I got to 700 rounds I did….Triarc Extended Slide Stop, Wilson Combat BP Single Side safety, Wilson Combat BP Disconnector, Wilson Combat BP Extractor, Wilson Combat Firing Pin Stop, EGW Extended Firing Pin, Extra power Firing Pin Spring, EGW Keyed Reverse Plug (.332), EGW Tungsten Guide Rod, 8 LB Recoil Spring, 17LB Mainspring, Atlas Match Ignition, Red Dirt Solid Flat F2 Trigger, 10-8 Magazine Catch, and then last but not least I filed in a Disconnector Ramp (Marvel Cut) into the slide/polished it….now it’s as smooth as butter and the lock up is just as good as my buddys Atlas and that’s saying a lot for this platform that’s being fully upgraded that is….
I must have got lucky and got mine made on a Wednesday. Slide stop functions and so far no issues with the safety or magwell. I did your function tests and extractor tests and it passed no issues with Gold Dot, HST and WC Barnes TacXP's. Only have 400 rounds in it so far though but it's been great. I do however have a 10mm 2023 Specialist that has all those issues that took a lot of TLC to fix it.
What is your opinion on 10mm 1911’s?
That “flush fit” magazine doesnt seem very flush fit. I get making it slimmer, but it seems longer for the same capacity. Will need to see side by sides to see if it is worth it to switch out my current C2. Also, could they have made that naming convention more confusing?? Just call it something different- I mean, there are 23 other letters in the alphabet they could have used LOL!
Thanks, very helpful video.
My set of used p220 mags on their at from eBay!!! Now u have me worried 😂 well I can send em back if they don’t work properly. I got 10 rd blued i should probably got 8 rd stainless for only 10$ more
Good info
Cool video 😎👍
Cool info 👍
✔️✅️
Great video, when and where will I be able to obtain the performance 10-8 armorers block. Been looking everywhere for one to no avail, I need one badly . Please help!!!! Thank you
Has anyone made a video comparing the C and the C2? Would be nice to see them discussed and compared. Especially for those who have the C2 currently and are thinking of buying the C.
Thoughts on lack of drop safety
Great review. Appreciate the no-BS content.
I have been on the fence on which model to get. I think this is it.
First time I've seen your videos. Great quality and content!
Wish I could afford a Staccato 😢
That thing was snapping like hell
I always thought that about the CS but everyone seems to love them. Ive considered the C but sweet mother the price. Still unsure if its worth the increase over a G19 for ccw.
That’s actually what concerned me as well! Looked to be pretty snappy. Just as snappy as my CS.
Seems oversprung
Have you shot the C against the P?
I've never done a slow feed test but good idea. I can only see my Ruger 57 having an issue lol
“Not released at the time of filming” flex 😂
I'll be getting one of these as well. How long is the full size vs this compact grip? Say is the compact G19 length or longer? That's what I can't really decide on.
is the trigger reach shorter compare to the c2 ?
I am surprised you described the CS as so tiring to shoot?
I just wish that Staccato still made their P model in 45 ACP.
I really like your review format, subscribed.
When they first announced this they said it was going to be 16 or 18 mag sizes. Have you heard as to why they dropped in size. Was it unreliable? My cs hasn’t had problems with the 16 rounders
Solid! I probably won’t be getting one, but I appreciate your insight on this.
Great content - I was not aware of the mag changes. It’s worth noting that a lot of influencers are recommending Bul Armory but rarely mention or downplay the 1 year warranty. Whereas Staccato has a lifetime warranty. That is a HUGE difference!
Do you prefer this over the C2?
Thank you Hilton! Great information. I still REALLY want the OG original Staccato C DPO. I have the C2 and I love it but I really want that single stack for CCW. Again, thank you! God bless! Be safe! 🤙🪖👮🙏🇺🇲
So innovative! "Let's add 1/10th of an inch to the barrel, and call it the best all around pistol!" Wonder how many people will fall for that. No different to be honest. I still love Staccato but not impressed with this one.
Its half an inch. And the option for a full size frame. I personally carry a compact grip and 4" barrel so i would pick this over the CS. You dont need both, unless you get the cs and the full size C. Then you have a carry gun with the CS and a home defense/competition/range gun with the C that take the same mags. Its about versatility. Not "tricking" anyone into thinking they "need" this. However, to someone that doesnt have a staccatto like myself, the C is the most versatile option
Damnit! I bought, not one, but two C2s right before this "C" came out, and I much prefer the smaller grip/mag... I thought I was done buying 2011s, I guess not.
You didnt like the CS?
Over hyped Owned a P and c2. Now it’s just a fad to own a staccato. There are better alternatives out there and I prefer Wilson SFX or oddly enough the Apollo 11 compact. Also staccatos business model has turned to trash. To be an influencer and try to review them it’s a pain and to be a dealer you have to sell 1000s of units or be a law enforcement agency. Their marketing is pretty snobby and it’s just not a good look. Thank you for a good honest review though
Absolutely love my Wilson EDCX9 and SFX9!
I have a C2 and an original model C. That being said, I’m looking forward to adding a new C.
I wish you'd start making a new grip safety for the 2011 that has an extended bump on it for folks like me who consistently have issues with engaging it in the battery of arms. I've already sent mine back to Staccato and had it sensitized as far as they were allowed to "Legally" go. Still no bueno and I've basically got a 3k paperweight / range toy. Not a happy camper.
I've shot staccatos, sTi , Atlas, nighthawk but don't own one. This is a stellar and well informed video
Does Staccato have any plans to make a steel frame 5-inch barrel model like Bul Armory offer? A threaded barrel with a comp and have the rail set flush with the comp will be great. Also the extra weight will be welcome.
Great review as always. Do you have any experience with the new BulArmory 2011?
I'd buy new Bul over Staccato right now. Only thing Staccato does better is DLC. Bul Armory is as good if not better in all other ways. For cheaper too
@PkwyDrive13 thanks for your input. I love the new ported BulArmory
Great review. Definitely silenced any concerning thoughts I had about my Staccato C purchase.
It’s available today with the long grip! I just ordered! Fyi, check the site. Today is the day!
Looks great. But, I am not sure if the improvements are worth the cost of up grading from my C2.
Not at all
I have the same thought
I don’t get it. The new C weighs 1oz more than the C2 bare and is either .1” shorter (15 rd) or .3” taller (17 rd) than the C2. So why change from a C2 to a C? If you want 17rds in the C2, just change the follower to an Apollo +1 AND you get to use all those mags that you have.
@@p996c4sanyone changing their grip to the Apollo 3D printed grip is foolish. That grip is trash! It’s the worst part of the pistol and the first thing I changed out.
Sold
Any idea as to why the follower on those magazines extends beyond the lips of the magazine tube? I had one that extended 2-3 mm above the lip and as a consequence the slide would get caught and not close on an empty magazine. Staccato promptly replaced that magazine but I noticed that all CS and C magazines extend beyond the lip which it is something that I have never seen on double stack magazines of any brand.
Would love to see a c2 vs C
Literally only a 1/10th inch difference in the barrel... basically no difference.
@@PkwyDrive13 the grip texture is like the CS which is better and Im not sure if the external extractor is it better then the internal one But for me what i dont like is all the other mags i have for the C2 and the P are now useless and staccato mags are pricey
@@markcromeyer1652the internal extractor on the C2 vs the external extractor on the 2024 C is what I’m interested in understanding… both my C2 and P have the internal extractor… spoke with a Staccato rep to ask about this change… really didn’t get much info other than “look at the P and how many people depend their life on that weapon…”
@@PkwyDrive13 This is completely inaccurate. Yes, the barrel is .1” longer on the C than the C2. The C2 has a larger grip circumference due to the magazine. The C has a smaller grip circumference because the magazine is 9mm specific now. The C2 has a traditional internal extractor. The C has an external extractor. The C weighs less than the C2. So there are a lot of differences and I agree that a comparison would be informative for those of us with a C2 considering purchasing the new C.
Oof, just picked up a DWX Compact optics ready. Appreciate the video.
Would these new slim C grip modules fit on a Staccato P slide? A video on this would be cool.
Thats a good question.
Someone stuck a CS on a P and used CS mags and it ran.
Hilton/10-8 Performance do you have any thoughts, with your background in law enforcement, on the recent commotion regarding the drop safety (or lack of) of the Staccatos? Thanks.
It’s a 70 series 1911 design.
Exactly, it is a Series 70 style action, so it is not drop safe. It doesn’t have a firing pin block. The only thing that keeps the firing pin off the primer is the firing pin retaining spring. If you drop the gun on its muzzle, the gun stops when it hits the floor, but the firing pin has inertia and it wants to keep going. So if you drop it from a high enough height, the inertia of the firing pin will be enough to overcome the force of the firing pin spring, and the gun will fire. Hilton tested this more than 15 years ago. It only took less than 5’ for a Series 70 to discharge. You can increase the required height for the gun to discharge by using a lighter titanium firing pin (which has less inertia) and an extra strength firing pin retaining spring. The lighter firing pin and stronger retaining spring will improve the drop safety but won’t eliminate the problem - this is all simply physics. The strength of the retaining spring is fixed, but the inertia is proportional to the height of the drop. So no matter how strong the spring, you will always be able to overcome it by increasing the height of the drop.
@@M1911jln I understand. Given his knowledge and background I'm asking his thoughts on this type of firearm in a duty or edc use. Clearly series 70 1911s have been in serious use for awhile and anecdotally there has been very few ADs due to drops... anecdotally I've heard/read more about accidental ADs due to striker fired pistols without a manual/external safety, yet they are widely adopted by law enforcement agencies and civilians and no one bats an eye.
@@yudaliu725Considering the frequency of physical struggles that police get into, I would not choose a gun that it is not drop safe as a duty handgun. I use and have carried handguns which are not drop safe, but I’m not a police officer so my likelihood of getting into a physical struggle is significantly lower. But that is just my 2 cents.
Appreciate the in depth reviews- your review of the Dan Wesson steered me away from them for the one piece barrel ramp which most people miss-your positive review of the MIM TRP demonstrated that forged doesn’t always mean better 👍🏼
Bad decision on steering away from DW because of one person’s opinion.
@@HWG-wm8ldthe testing sample was pretty robust- 20 stoppages and failure over 1000 rds is pretty bad. The 1 piece ramp on the barrel just doesn’t work great with several types of ammo. Only 3 stops with Springfield.
